CRNA and US Paralympic Nordic co-hosted an Elite ParaNordic Clinic on 10/23-29/17 at Lake Placid, NY-right after its Gala. Athletes vying for the 2018 Winter Paralympic Nordic team attended working on both XC and Biathlon skills to make the team.  It is now off to IPCN WC and USPN national’s  to see who will make the team. Thanks goes to all those who attended included USPN development coach BethAnn Chamberlain.  USPN High performance Director and former Olympian John Farra from Saratoga Springs, NY worked with CRNA president Russ Myer to make all happen….including snow in October!!! Which includes a Thank you to the staff at Mt Van Hoevenberg-Mike Battisti  et al and Jared Steenberge and crew at the OTC in Lake Placid!

Next step…S Korea and Pyeong Chang!  Let’s Go for the Gold

CRNA members met with Olympic Regional Development Agency liaison Rebecca Dayton, US Paralympic Nordic HP Director-John Farra , Paralympians Joe Walsh from New England Adaptive Sports and Bob Balk, Jean Brennan and sponsor Howard Horowitz to expand adaptive nordic opportunities in NY and NE. The meeting took place at the Desmond Hotel on June 27.

Much was discussed with dates throughout the upcoming season for clinics and events determined. There will be much more should CRNA receive its VA grant as well as confirming opportunities with Adaptive Sports Foundation in Windham…enabling many more veterans and others to participate.  More to follow as the summer unfolds ..Stay cool!

CRNA completed its 3 adaptive Nordic clinic series at Adaptive Sports Foundation in grand fashion. Despite no snow, Clinic facilitator, Russ Myer introduced the veterans to visual, audio and LW pellet para biathlon shooting along with XC ski lessons and drills-improving everyone’s fun on the boards. The shooting was excellent indoors and just as good on the last day when a short course was set up on whispering run at the base of Windham MT…..A super time was had by all during the 3 day clinic. Nothing beats this country’s veterans….Top gun-each and every one of them

As is CRNA’s custom…A round of applause and thank you to ASF administration-Todd Munn and Pam Greene as well as Windham’s Chip Seamans, Chris Cook and our security PAL from the UK.

CRNA looks to do much more with ASF as adaptive Nordic and Alpine seem to be actually……getting along?

CRNA’s Tom Wright lead a 2 day adaptive nordic clinic January 26-28, 2016 at Adaptive Sports Foundation in Windham, NY. A group of determined vets with a variety of disabilities took to both skating and classic skiing at the base of the mt. with additional workouts in roller skiing, xc specific drills and  presentations on equipment and waxing making the clinic a success! Several of the athletes expressed an interest in attending the adaptive nordic events at the empire state games. The next adaptive nordic clinic includes Paralympic Biathlon in late February at ASF

Thank you Tom and ASF!

Despite lots of rain then frigid temps prior to the event, the final CRNA XC event of the year at Hilltop was a success with both  elite and novices….and even a snowshoer all having a great day!!  Hilltop owner, John Vittori and Russ Myer used the Piston Bully 100 to break up the ice, then till and pack it  creating a wonderful course surface from which both skaters and classical skiers skied well!

There  was talked with Jeff and Maria Moody of collaborating on a regional biathlon program.  Once the weather breaks, CRNA will talk with all to see if a biathlon program can become a reality. CRNA has the equipment, Western MA and NENSA has the people!  A great combination

Well the rain did not wash the snow away due to diligent grooming by the Hilltop Nordic Center Staff….so we are on for Sat the 15th!

a 5K or 10K around Hilltop’s 3 loops…Riesling Run, Johnny Mash and Perry’s Peak…..the snow is good but it may rain or snow tonight so bring both good and rock skis. Day of registration starts 9AM, event starts at 10AM. Both classic and skate techniques welcome…check out CRNA’s event page for fees……

See you tomorrow

Russ, Tom and Colin
